Welcome to the Course of Study
ONLINE LEARNING CENTER

The Course of Study (COS) is a basic theological education program prescribed by the Book of Discipline and offered by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. At this Course of Study Online Learning Center, you can enroll and complete many of the traditional basic correspondence courses as well as access resources and course-work for some regional and conference schools.

To Enroll for the GBHEM Program:

In order to take any courses offer through the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry program, you must first register with the Course of Study office through the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM). Download the application form to begin the registration process for the general courses. If you are enrolling in the United Methodist Polity course, please use the Polity Application Form. The form must be signed and mailed with your course fee payments to the address on the form. For questions or more information, call Nancy Lown at 615-340-7390 or send an email to cos@gbhem.org.

To Enroll for a Regional or Conference Program:

In order to take any courses offered by regional schools or annual conferences, you must first register with the dean or program director of the specific Course of Study program. In most cases, the name of the dean or director will appear alongside the course listings. You can send an email to the dean, director or course instructor by selecting his/her name within the listing description. If you cannot locate the contact information, send an email to training@umcom.org and include the name of the course you are interested in accessing. We will provide a contact for you to complete the registration process with the regional school or annual conference program.

For All Students:

If you are new to the Course of Study Online Learning Center, please complete the Moodle Basics Course first so you will be confident in navigating this site and successful in completing your courses. You do not need to register with GBHEM to take this introductory Moodle course, and it is free to all COS students.
